Develop know-how to improve energy efficiency and air quality in buildings using natural ventilation and intelligent control systems
This project investigates refurbishment strategies for improving the energy efficiency and indoor air quality in existing commercial buildings by applying natural ventilation and intelligent control systems.
Data from a case study building in Lichfield is being collected to compare with computer simulation models of the thermal performance and indoor air quality predictions of the existing building prior to refurbishment.
The simulation model will then be used to inform the refurbishment of the building. The refurbished building will be monitored in terms of its energy consumption, thermal comfort and indoor air quality.
The work will be used to provide guidelines on energy efficient refurbishment of commercial premises and on the appropriate use of computer simulation software to assist this process.
