Student campaigns

The electricity consumption and costs associated with the student accommodation halls has been rising over recent years.
To address this rise, a student based energy awareness campaign was developed in 2006. The campaign is run by Loughborough Students' Union and is supported by Facilities Management and imago Services.
The Energy League
The Energy League compares halls of residence electricity consumption with a representative period of the previous year. The competition offers rewards for the largest reduction in consumption on a monthly and termly basis.
The winning halls are rewarded monthly with carbon sequestration to offset gas consumption. The cost of this is added to the hall RAG total. Termly incentives are social based.
The competition has proved to be a success, and is now run on an annual basis to coincide with the academic year. The competition was highly commended in the 2006-07 Green Gown Awards in the Student Initiatives Category. The main contact for the campaign's operation is the Students' Union Ethical and Environmental Officer.
