Support for Schools/Departments
The provision of focused support to colleagues in schools/departments is a high priority within the Teaching Centre. Support may be within a single school/department or campus-wide, as appropriate.
Support for schools/departments may take different forms, such as individual work with a colleague on a specific issue; customised workshops for groups of colleagues with a common interest; researching an area of teaching, learning and assessment to help inform decision-making about school/departmental developments; the analysis of data as part of a review and evaluation exercise; support in preparing bids for teaching-related funding.
We recognise that expertise in teaching resides in many places within the University and will work collaboratively with others to address your needs.

Initiatives with schools
The Teaching Centre supports individual schools/departments by addressing specific development needs of staff as identified by the school/department. Recent initiatives have addressed:
- The job of Programme Director
- Exam setting
- Communication skills for research staff
- Successful approaches to block teaching
- Development of bought-in teachers
- Development of a new MSc course (supporting experienced researchers with limited teaching experience)
- Reviewing assessment and feedback
- Working with large student cohorts
Practice-sharing initiatives
The Teaching Centre can organise a practice-sharing event on a particular issue of concern common to several schools. Examples include:
- Laboratory-based Modules Forum: staff from science and engineering schools/departments sharing practice and ideas on issues such as: student preparation, efficient assessment, electronic lab notebooks.
- Supporting International Students in Your Teaching: practice-sharing event enabling staff to discuss teaching methods and techniques designed to integrate international students effectively.
