Outlook 2007 - E-mail Search
To Perform a Simple Search
You can get to the search window by pressing Ctrl+E.

Type in what you want to search for and press ENTER.
Click on the red close X icon to close the search.
Subsequently you can click on the down arrow icon to repeat previous searches.
By default this will search only the current folder. If the required e-mail is not found, the following will be displayed.

You can click the Try searching again in All Mail Items link to search all folders.
To change the Search Defaults
Click the drop-down button next to the Search entry, and select Search Options.

You can elect to turn on All folders as the default option for searching (or to turn it off again). You can also elect to include Deleted Items.

Click OK.
To Perform An Advanced Find
Select the folder to be searched.
From the Tools menu select Instant Search then Advanced Find, or press Ctrl+Shift+F.

This dialogue should be easy to use.
To use the Query Builder
From the Tools menu select Instant Search and then Expand the Query Builder, or press Ctrl+Alt+W.

If the options appear grayed out, then you will need to either use the Advanced Find described above, or install Windows Desktop Search 4.

From the Windows Start menu select Settings and then Control Panel.

Double-click Add or Remove Programs.

In the left-hand menu click Add New Programs.

Scroll to and select Windows Desktop Search v4, and then click the Add button.
There will be a performance hit on the computer after installing Desktop Search. Only install it if you require these advanced search facilities. This is not recommended for older machines.
Once this is installed, you can use the Advanced Search options.
To Create a Search Folder in your Mailbox
This allows you to permanently save a search and access it as if it were a Folder. This is only available in your mailbox, and not in other mailboxes such as E-mail Archive.
