Connecting to Exchange from Other Clients
Mobile Devices
Please see our Mobile Computing pages at www.lboro.ac.uk/it/mobile to see if we have instructions for your device.
Otherwise
You can use the IMAP protocol for connecting to Exchange. The IMAP settings are:
-
IMAP / Incoming server: [imaps://] email.lboro.ac.uk
-
IMAP / Incoming port: 993
-
IMAP / Incoming security method: SSL
-
SMTP / Outgoing server: [smtp://]email.lboro.ac.uk
-
SMTP / Outgoing port: 587
-
SMTP / Outgoing security method: TLS
Note: In Thunderbird (and perhaps other clients) this is called STARTTLS
-
Authentication method / type: plain
Note: Security for the connection is provided by SSL.
We do not recommend connecting from Outlook 2003.
For staff (not Postgraduate Researchers) we recommend that you upgrade to Office 2010. You will then be running the same version of Office at home and in work, and configuring Outlook is simpler. Office 2010 is available from the Staff Work @ Home scheme - see www.lboro.ac.uk/it/apps/work-at-home.html.
For Postgraduate Researchers you can use Outlook Web Access via https://email.lboro.ac.uk/, or you can upgrade your version of Office to 2010 using discounted methods such as "The Ultimate Steal" or "Microsoft Student Select". See the Students Buying Software web page at www.lboro.ac.uk/it/software/.
