Dr Natalie Pearson wins Early Career Award
The UK Society for Behavioural Medicine has announced that Dr Natalie Pearson is one of two winners of their Early Career Award. This Award provides annual recognition of the work of promising early career researchers in behavioural medicine in the UK.

Loughborough to help deliver physical activity legacy for London 2012 Paralympic Games thanks to The Coca-Cola Foundation
The Coca-Cola Active Healthy Living Grant, which was awarded to the Loughborough University Development Trust, will be accessed by researchers in the Peter Harrison Centre for Disability Sport (part of the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences) to explore the pathways to encourage people to become 'fit for life, fit for sport and fit for success'.30 Nov 2011

The Scopus Young Researcher Award, developed by Elsevier in association with the US/UK Fulbright Commission, recognizes and rewards the talent, knowledge and expertise of young researchers around the globe in a variety of disciplines.

Dr Paula Griffiths from the Centre for Global Health and Development in the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences at Loughborough University co-organised a workshop with Dr Bharati Kulkarni at the National Institute of Nutrition in Hyderabad, India to help further understanding of child growth and the developmental origins of health and disease in India. The workshop was funded by The Royal Society UK and the Department for Science and Technology, India under their Indo-UK international seminar competition scheme. -
Prof. Barry Bogin is an invited speaker at the 71st Nestlé Nutrition Institute Workshop to be held in Vienna, Austria from 23 – 26 October, 2011.

The title of the Workshop is, "Recent Advances in Growth Research: Nutritional, Molecular and Endocrine Perspectives." Prof. Bogin will speak on "Secular changes in childhood, puberty and adult stature." The proceedings of the Workshop will be published in the Nestlé Nutrition Institute Workshops Series (Karger, Basel Switzerland). -

Marta Oliveira (supervised by Professor Mike Gleeson) won the prize for best Oral presentation at the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine 8th Annual Scientific Meeting, Trinity College, Dublin.

A work management tool designed by Loughborough University experts to empower people living with and beyond cancer has been unveiled today by Macmillan Cancer Support. Work it out: the essential questions to ask about work, was developed by researchers in the School in conjunction with Affinity Health at Work Consultancies and Macmillan Cancer Support.

Professor Barrie Houlihan has been elected to the Academy of Social Sciences of the United Kingdom. Dr. Houlihan is Professor of Sport Policy in the Institute of Sport and Leisure Policy. He has been involved in teaching and researching sport for over twenty years. He has a particular interest in sports development, the diplomatic use of sport, and drug abuse by athletes. -

Science in Football from Principle to Practice

Leicester City FC Manager Sven-Göran Eriksson has confirmed he will be at the opening of Loughborough University's new initiative to bring together leading scientific expertise to benefit the football industry which will be held at Loughborough University on Wednesday 30 March 2011. Mr Eriksson has long and distinguished career in football and we are delighted that he is able to open the conference with an insight into his thoughts on science in football. He will be followed by presentations by University researchers that have influenced FIFA, UEFA, the FA and many Premiership clubs. The one-day event aims to give football coaches and support staff insights from the latest football research and take home messages they can immediately apply to get the best out of players at all levels.
