Background
Obtained a first class degree
from the Department of Human Sciences at Loughborough University. Subsequently
completed a PhD in Exercise Physiology at The University of Birmingham.
Founded a spinout company, and worked for three years as Technical Director,
before taking up a lectureship at Loughborough as Programme Director
for Sports Technology in 1999. Founded a spinout company (Progressive
Sports technologies Ltd) in 2001. Obtained a Personal Chair in 2007.
Currently Director of the Loughborough Sports Technology Institute.

Inaugural Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Sports Engineering and Technology

Executive Committee Member and Trustee for the International Sports
Engineering Association (2003-2007).
Visiting titles:
Invited to take up a visiting-chair at the Centre for Sports Innovation
at MIT, planned for 2008.
Major conference activity:
Sat on Scientific and Advisor Board Committees for several international
Engineering of Sport Conferences. Delivered keynote presentations
and chaired numerous sessions at international conferences.

Advisory roles:
One of five panel members to review and short-list applications to
joint a joint EPSRC/UK Sport ‘sports technology funding sandpit’.
Provides consultancy services to numerous sporting goods brands.

Journal of Sports Engineering, International Journal of Sports Science
and Engineering.
Collaborative research:
Partners include, Canterbury; New Balance; Reebok; Nike; UK Sport.
EU - Innosport’ FP6 led by TNO. LU initiatives with Rapid manufacturing
- £1M project, “Personalised footwear – from elite
to high street”.
Commercialisation of research:
Managing Director of Progressive Sports Technologies Ltd, an LU spinout
commercialising fitness and sports technologies via licensing to global
sports brands.
Named inventor on numerous granted patents, several commercialised
via licensing deals.

Winner of ‘Medical Innovation of the Year’ awarded by Medical
