As Director of Education Partnerships, for the Department of Electronic & Electrical Engineering, John Hooper is responsible for the initiation, development and maintaining of Education Partnerships with a wide range of companies and other organisations.
He has directed and managed the portfolio of taught Programmes in Systems Engineering at the University. In his teaching role he has developed and delivers a number of Business, Project and Financial Management taught modules.

In this wide ranging role I was initially responsible for the establishment of an Undergraduate Programming in Electro-Mechanical Power Engineering, its promotion to industry and potential students. This led to my managing the more general promotion of the Department to potential students and becoming Admissions Tutor. I then moved to directing and developing the Undergraduate Programmes in Systems Engineering gaining considerable support from industry. Additionally I developed and delivered a range of modules in Engineering and Business Management.

Engineering Director (previously Production Director)
Following a period managing the company’s product design facility, I was given the responsibility to direct and manage the production facility. The company, a subsidiary of York Trailers, produced heavy trailer axles and suspension systems and the ‘Big D’ articulated trailer coupling. The facility had 120 works personal with an annual turnover of £12 million. I had to meet exacting production targets and maintain good labour relations. Major projects included the move to the automation of welded assemblies. As Engineering Director I had full responsibility for the company’s product design and the total quality and quality control systems as well as contribution to the company’s strategic development.
