Admission requirements

Candidates for admission must satisfy the General Regulations for Higher Awards by Programme in the Modular Scheme. Copies of the regulations and application forms may be obtained from the University Postgraduate Office. Normally the minimum entry requirements will be a second class honours degree, or an equivalent qualification in computing. In the case of the Information Technology programme applicants whose first degree has involved a substantial study of computing will not usually be accepted since the programme is intended to serve the needs of students who do not possess a background in computing and who require re-orientation at Masters/Diploma level. In practice, students should have, or expect to gain, at least a second class honours degree or qualification of equivalent standard recognised by the University. Applications are treated on an individual basis, however, and so alternative qualifications may be considered, especially in the case of mature students.

Selection

Selection is based on application form, CV and confidential reports of named referees. In certain cases candidates are invited for interview.

English Language

Intending applicants whose first language is not English must be prepared to provide documentary evidence of their ability in English Language. Details of the University's requirements can be found in the General Regulations for Higher Awards by Programme in the Modular Scheme, but as a guide a score of at least 6.5 would be needed in the IELTS as administered by the British Council or 600 (250 for the Computer-based test) in TOEFL.

How to Apply

It is important that applicants adopt the correct procedure to ensure that applications are processed in good time. Application forms may be obtained from the Postgraduate Office. They can also be downloaded and the completed form posted (or faxed) to the Postgraduate Office. Alternatively, applicants can complete an online version of the application form . Applications to all programmes must be supported by documentary evidence of qualifications. A decision about your application will not be made until this evidence has been received. Completed application forms should be returned to the Postgraduate Office at the above address and not to the Department. The closing date for applications for the academic year 2010-11 is early August 2010. Term commences Monday, 4th October 2010.

Accommodation/Fees

As accommodation charges and tuition fees are liable to change each year, students should refer to the relevant edition of the Postgraduate Prospectus or contact the Postgraduate Office for current rates. University accommodation is limited and while every effort is made to arrange on-campus accommodation, it is possible that not all students who wish to stay in the Postgraduate Halls of Residence will be able to do so. The University will provide every assistance to students in this regard.

Sponsorships and Scholarships

Although there are no scholarships directly associated with these programmes, limited financial assistance may be possible in certain cases.
