About the University

Working with the community

Student with local children

The University, and the colleges that preceded it, has been a part of Loughborough for many years.  Our aim is to make a significant contribution to the social and economic wellbeing of the town and the wider region, by working closely with key partners, including residents and the local authorities.

With almost 3,000 staff, Loughborough University is the town’s largest employer and it contributes significantly to the local economy.  Today it has more than 13,000 full-time students.

Members of the community can access many of the campus facilities including its world class sports facilities, and attend a variety of events held at the University each year.

Loughborough Students’ Union also organises many events across the town to support the local community.  These include litter-picking sessions, tea dances for pensioners and woodland management days.

The University wants to be a good citizen and a responsible neighbour and is committed to good working relationships with residents, Charnwood Borough Council, the Police and other authorities in the town.
